Japan&#8217;s third-largest city, just 40 minutes from Kyoto, is as far removed as possible from the refined elegance of the ancient capital and diametrically opposed to the modern capital, Tokyo, where everything appears impeccable, orderly, almost cold and sterile. Osaka, on the other hand, is warm, messy, &#8220;Italian-like.&#8221;\u200b<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"615\" data-end=\"952\">Also known as the &#8220;kitchen of Japan,&#8221; a paradise for street food and a mecca for &#8220;greasy&#8221; dishes, this city in the Kansai region is often the starting (or ending) point for trips to Japan, thanks to the Kansai International Airport. Until October, it will be in the spotlight due to EXPO 2025.\u200b<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"615\" data-end=\"952\"><a href=\"https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/en\/visiting-expo-2025-osaka\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #f99b1c;\"><strong>Read Also: Visiting Osaka EXPO 2025<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"954\" data-end=\"1073\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\"><strong>While not an unmissable must-see like the iconic Kyoto and Tokyo, Osaka is a stop where I recommend spending a night<\/strong>, perhaps the last before saying goodbye to Japan.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">It can also be a strategic base for exploring the Kansai region, thanks to its logistical convenience and numerous connections to surrounding areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"954\" data-end=\"1073\">What to see and do in Osaka<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1105\" data-end=\"1300\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Osaka doesn&#8217;t have many must-see attractions.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\"><strong>It&#8217;s primarily a city to experience<\/strong>, where you can stroll and observe the quirky humanity that inhabits it, amidst giant signs and kitsch elements popping up here and there.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Osaka is gaudy, and while it&#8217;s not one of my favorite cities in Japan, I must admit it has its charm.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Spending one last evening here before leaving Japan is certainly a good idea, just in time to see Osaka&#8217;s main attractions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1105\" data-end=\"1300\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6053 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Castello-di-Osaka-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"Cosa vedere a Osaka - Castello di Osaka\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Castello-di-Osaka-800x600.jpg 800w, https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Castello-di-Osaka-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Castello-di-Osaka-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Castello-di-Osaka.jpg 1945w\" data-sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 800px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 800\/600;\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6053\" src=\"https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Castello-di-Osaka-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"Cosa vedere a Osaka - Castello di Osaka\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Castello-di-Osaka-800x600.jpg 800w, https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Castello-di-Osaka-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Castello-di-Osaka-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Castello-di-Osaka.jpg 1945w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/noscript>\u200b<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1302\" data-end=\"1318\">Osaka Castle<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1320\" data-end=\"1565\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">A symbol of the city and <strong>one of Japan&#8217;s most famous castles<\/strong>, Osaka Castle was originally built in 1583 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the warlord who sought to unify the country.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">It was the site of the final battle that granted the title of Shogun to Ieyasu Tokugawa.<\/span> <br \/>\n<span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Destroyed multiple times over the centuries, the<strong> current castle is a concrete structure housing a museum<\/strong> dedicated to its history.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">From the top floor, you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the city.<\/span> <br \/>\n<span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">However, if you&#8217;re not particularly interested in history, you might skip the interior and admire it from the outside, along with the surrounding park that begins to bloom in late February with the blossoming of ume, Japanese plum trees.<\/span>\u200b<br \/>\n<em><strong data-start=\"1569\" data-end=\"1582\">Admission<\/strong>: <span style=\"color: #00aae7;\"><strong><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">1,200 JPY<\/span><\/strong><\/span>\u200b<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong data-start=\"1672\" data-end=\"1681\">Hours<\/strong>: <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">09:00\u201317:00, open daily<\/span><\/em>\u200b<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1770\" data-end=\"1783\">Shinsekai<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1785\" data-end=\"2030\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Shinsekai, literally &#8220;new world,&#8221; was built in 1912, inspired by Paris and Coney Island.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Today, it&#8217;s a neighborhood with a decadent charm, full of bright and often giant signs, historic eateries, and a retro Showa-era atmosphere.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Its symbol is the <strong>Tsutenkaku Tower<\/strong>, rising among the signs and neon lights of the area&#8217;s numerous izakayas.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">It&#8217;s said that kushikatsu, a type of fried skewers dipped in a special sauce, originated here.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">I highly recommend stopping by one of the small street-side eateries to try them!<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2032\" data-end=\"2117\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Speaking of quirky attractions, inside the Tsutenkaku Tower, they&#8217;ve recently opened a 60-meter-long slide descending from the third floor&#8230; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 800\/600;\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6055\" src=\"https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Glicoman-Osaka-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"Cosa vedere a Osaka - Glicoman\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Glicoman-Osaka-800x600.jpg 800w, https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Glicoman-Osaka-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Glicoman-Osaka-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Glicoman-Osaka.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/noscript>\u200b<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2449\" data-end=\"2485\">Namba \u2013 Dotonbori \u2013 Shinsaibashi<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2487\" data-end=\"2772\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">The commercial and nightlife heart of Osaka.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">It&#8217;s hard to distinguish the exact boundaries between these three areas, which blend into a continuous stream of neon signs, karaoke bars, pachinko parlors, and various eateries.<\/span> <br \/>\n<span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\"><strong>Shinsaibashi<\/strong> is a shopping paradise, home to the Parco shopping center with stores like the Pok\u00e9mon Center, Nintendo, and the <span style=\"color: #f99b1c;\"><a style=\"color: #f99b1c;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C48FpAAvIeB\/?igsh=dTR4dG83b3g2eTcy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ghibli photo spot.<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/span> <br \/>\n<span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\"><strong>Dotonbori<\/strong> is the area along the canal of the same name, a showcase of flashy tourism, featuring the famous <span style=\"color: #f99b1c;\"><a style=\"color: #f99b1c;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/C4iL-whPCbN\/?igsh=OXFsNjZwdm9hcndx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Glico Man,<\/strong><\/a><\/span> the giant crab, the oval Ferris wheel of Don Quijote, and animated signs.<\/span> <br \/>\n<span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\"><strong>Namba<\/strong> is the transportation hub and the access point to all this chaos.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Amidst this maze of lights and colors, be sure not to miss the tiny Hozenji Temple with the moss-covered statue of the deity Fudomyoo, and the Yasaka Namba Shrine, uniquely shaped like a lion&#8217;s head.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2774\" data-end=\"2792\">Kuromon Market<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2794\" data-end=\"2999\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Of course, in what&#8217;s considered Japan&#8217;s kitchen, we can&#8217;t overlook its most famous market!<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Although I must admit it&#8217;s become much more touristy and crowded&#8230; if you&#8217;re up for facing this chaos, you&#8217;ll find plenty of street food here, from fresh fish to wagyu beef, as well as fruits and Instagrammable sweets.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Prices are, in my opinion, higher than in other areas, and given the crowd, mostly of Asian tourists,<strong> I&#8217;d suggest skipping it<\/strong>.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">You&#8217;ll find excellent street food in Shinsekai and Dotonbori as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2794\" data-end=\"2999\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6057 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Sumiyosha-Shrine-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"Cosa vedere a Osaka \" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Sumiyosha-Shrine-800x600.jpg 800w, https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Sumiyosha-Shrine-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Sumiyosha-Shrine-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/warmcheaptrips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Sumiyosha-Shrine.jpg 1754w\" data-sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 800px; It&#8217;s a tranquil oasis, featuring a very scenic red arched bridge and a lovely local atmosphere. Take your time to explore the entire complex: besides the main building, there are several other structures dedicated to, for example, couple prosperity or&#8230; cats!<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"806\" data-end=\"890\">Few tourists, lots of \u201cauthentic\u201d Japan\u2014this was probably my favorite spot in Osaka.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"892\" data-end=\"1138\">By the way, from here it\u2019s also easy to reach the <span style=\"color: #f99b1c;\"><a style=\"color: #f99b1c;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.teamlab.art\/e\/botanicalgarden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><strong data-start=\"942\" data-end=\"970\">TeamLab Botanical Garden<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, an open-air installation inside the botanical gardens created by the renowned digital art collective. As with all TeamLab exhibits, <strong><span style=\"color: #f99b1c;\"><a style=\"color: #f99b1c;\" href=\"https:\/\/gyg.me\/Oqj6w56r\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">tickets must be booked in advance<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1145\" data-end=\"1172\">Universal Studios Japan<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1174\" data-end=\"1333\"><strong>Unfortunately, I haven\u2019t had the chance to visit it myself yet<\/strong>, but I couldn\u2019t leave Universal Studios Japan (USJ) out of a list of things to see in Osaka!<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1335\" data-end=\"1893\">If you want to visit the park, plan to spend a whole day there, especially because it&#8217;s extremely popular and there are often long lines for the rides. The most iconic areas are definitely <em><strong data-start=\"1524\" data-end=\"1563\">The Wizarding World of Harry Potter<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong data-start=\"1568\" data-end=\"1592\">Super Nintendo World<\/strong><\/em>.
